About our Vein Clinic

Our founder and lead Phlebologist, Dr. Sameer Gupta ("Dr. Sam"), is a Harvard graduate who trained at Mayo Clinic, and is a recognized leader in the treatment of vein disease throughout the world, having treated thousands of patients across the United States and abroad. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine. He is one of the 795 Physicians in the nation currently certified by The American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine.

Many of our patients have found success after previously failed varicose vein treatments elsewhere, such as painful vein stripping, injection sclerotherapy, and radiofrequency ablation (VNUS closure). Our varicose vein treatments are virtually pain-free, performed in-office, and you can resume normal activities immediately.

Alsara Vein Clinic is located across from Dunkin' Donut Shop, between Kline Motors and Sinclair gas station at 1105 S Belt Hwy, St Joseph, MO 64507, less than a milenorth of US-36 on US-169.  There is ample parking with handicap access. The interior is very comfortable and homey.

There is no referral necessary to seek care. We offer consultations. Typically, the next step is a screening and diagnosis, which is done in the office and is pain-free. The Phlebologist (Vein Specialist) will perform a detailed examination, make a diagnosis, and will then discuss with you the best treatment options. Alsara Vein Clinic accepts most insurances. Our Patient Account Services personnel will be able to determine your insurance coverage and any copays during your visit.

At Alsara Vein Clinic, we do veins all day, every day. We love what we do, and more importantly, we love putting smiles on our patient's faces after life-changing treatments. Life is a beautiful journey. We're here to help. Call us at 816-396-0245, download our free info brochure, or visit Alsara Vein Clinic at 1105 S Belt Hwy, Saint Joseph, MO 64507 (see Map location).

A Message from Dr. Sam

Treating vein problems is my passion. Although the science of medicine is not perfect and our healthcare system is constantly changing, I have had the privilege of helping thousands of patients. Many came with unsuccessful vein treatments in the past and some were told that nothing more could be done. Restoring their health (and lost smiles) has been a very humbling experience.

The wealth of knowledge and experiences that I have gained in practice is priceless. Many patients have told me that my work has changed their lives. The truth is that along the way they have changed mine!

Life is a beautiful journey; I wouldn’t trade the experiences for anything in the world.

What is Injection Sclerotherapy?

Cryo SclerotherapyInjection sclerotherapy is the quality standard for spider veins treatment. Using a special light, the vein is isolated and a small amount of medication (sclerosant) is injected inside the vein. The medication "closes" the vein and stops the flow of blood.

Although the appearance of treated spider veins improves (diminishes) immediately, the spider veins are slowly absorbed by the body over a course of several weeks or months. Typically, several veins can be treated in one session and more than one session may be required depending on the extent of your spider veins. It is also possible that repeat injections in a single vein may be necessary since some spider veins are more "stubborn" than others.

What is VeinGogh?

vein gogh the doctors smVeinGogh is a breakthrough treatment technology for spider veins that allows us to treat even the smallest and the curviest vein where sclerotherapy may not be an option. An extremely tiny needle focuses energy (ohmic thermolysis) directly onto the spider vein and closes it immediately.

This VeinGogh spider vein treatment is not dependent on skin types, like lasers and other light-based therapies, and provides a superior solution for sealing vessels that have shown resistance to other treatment options. The tissue on the skin surface is rarely affected and many patients report minimal, if any, discomfort compared to laser or intense pulsed light therapies used elsewhere to remove spider veins. As with sclerotherapy, over time the body absorbs the "closed" veins.

Generally, patients will require sclerotherapy treatment first, as it is still the first option in treating spider veins. VeinGoghtreatment is then recommended for any spider veins remaining that meet the criteria in size. Rest assured, Alsara Vein Clinic uses the most sophisticated technology available and highly skilled staff to meet your needs for spider vein removal treatments.

Varicose Veins Treatment using Laser

What is Endovenous Laser Ablation Vein Treatment?

Varicose veins treatment using Endovenous Laser Ablation, or EVLA, is a non-surgical and minimally invasive varicose veins treatment that offers an effective alternative to the surgical stripping of veins. It is performed in the office under local anesthetic using our unique numbing system. We also offer needle-free numbing for the best comfort. Endovenous Laser Ablation is the safest, most effective, and long-term solution that science and modern medicine offers for varicose vein treatments.

How Does the EVLA Procedure Work?

Under ultrasound guidance, a thin fiber-optic probe is inserted through a tiny entry point, usually near the knee. Laser energy is delivered to seal the faulty vein so that blood cannot flow through it. This eliminates unsightly bulging and enables the blood to be diverted to healthy veins in the leg, thereby alleviating any symptoms. Immediately after the procedure patients can resume daily activity. Most patients are able to return to work immediately.

Laser Treatment of Varicose Veins

Innovative ThermaLite 1470 nm Laser System

varicose veins treatment using laserAlsara Vein Clinic exclusively uses the leading edge EVLA technology (1470 nm laser system), which decreases discomfort and bruising, while maintaining the unparalleled efficacy and safety of laser technology. Studies have shown that Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) is more effective in treating varicose veins than Radiofrequency Ablation (VNUS Closure). Traditional laser machines have utilized lower frequencies (810 nm or 980 nm) and target blood (hemoglobin) within the veins. However, there was more, although temporary, bruising and soreness noted with these laser frequencies than with radiofrequency ablation. The new ThermaLite 1470 nmlaser machines target water in the vein wall instead of hemoglobin, which results in much less discomfort, practically no bruising, and a fast return to normal activities. This is particularly important for people living active lifestyles who want to resume their activities right away and would like to wear shorts or skirts. The new 1470nm offers the best of both worlds. Alsara Vein Clinic has treated numerous patients using the new 1470 nmLaser with almost no discomfort or any bruising after the procedure. Our patients cannot be happier with the results.

Varicose Veins Treatment using VenaSeal Closure System

FDA-approved VenaSeal

What is VenaSeal™ Vein Treatment?

VenaSeal™ is a revolutionary FDA-approved medical-grade superglue for the treatment of varicose veins. The VenaSeal™ Closure System is a non-thermal treatment option that seals – or closes – the diseased vein using a small amount of specially formulated medical adhesive that is delivered to the diseased vein. The adhesive permanently seals the vein, and blood is rerouted through nearby healthy veins. Unlike other treatment options, only a single injection of numbing medication is needed, and no compression stockings are necessary post-treatment, which reduces discomfort and recovery time. Many patients are able to return to normal activity immediately after the procedure.
